How app shortcuts work in Lyra
Lyra gives macOS users two shortcut systems: automatic shortcuts for Dock apps and manual shortcuts for chosen apps. Both are designed for quick app switching without opening a broad launcher or search interface.
Setup paths
Automatic
Use modifier-based Dock shortcuts when your most important apps are already ordered in the Dock.
Manual
Add specific apps, capture their shortcuts, clear shortcuts, and remove rows when your workflow changes.
Actions
Choose behavior after switching, including App Peeking, Smart Cycle, Long Press to Quit, and input methods.
Quick Switch
Use a held modifier with 1-9 or a-z keys when recent-app order is the faster route.
Example layout
| App type | Shortcut idea |
|---|---|
| Browser | Put it on a low number because it is opened often. |
| Editor or IDE | Keep it near Terminal or design tools. |
| Chat | Use App Peeking to check messages and hide the app again. |
| Language-specific apps | Assign an input source so switching also prepares typing. |
